Cantine Alcesti

The Vineyards

Lands and Production

They span over 50 hectares in the area between Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, where the soil and climate conditions allow for the production of high-quality grapes.

The lands of the agricultural company are distinguished by various characteristics, some are located near the sea, others are situated in hilly areas, and still others in flat regions.
Each, therefore, has specific features that have determined the most suitable cultivation method based on the soil's characteristics.

All vineyards are trained with a trellis system and guyot pruning, except for the cabernet sauvignon vineyard, which uses a spur cordon pruning system.
The agricultural estate is carefully managed throughout the year directly by the owners, who oversee the plants' life cycle, intervening at specific times with pruning in January and May, two treatments to protect the vines from pest attacks, and cluster thinning to prioritize quality over quantity.

Our Wines

To meet the various and diverse market demands, we have created five product lines, all strictly made from grapes grown in our own vineyards, and all produced in full respect for traditions and the unique characteristics that our territory expresses.

The first line is called Classica, consisting of two entry-level products (one white and one red), very simple, straightforward, and aromatic. They have good structure and are absolutely pleasant to drink. Easy to drink, this is what the market has asked of us:
  • L’Isola dei Profumi Bianco, a blend of native white grape varieties;
  • L’Isola dei Profumi Bianco, a blend of native white grape varieties;
  • L’Isola dei profumi, Grillo;
  • L’Isola dei profumi, Nero d’Avola.

Since June 2018, a law was enacted requiring the Sicilian grape varieties Grillo and Nero d’Avola to be certified as
DOC Sicilia. In this context, Alcesti, which has been operating under organic farming since 2016, decided to introduce a line of two products named Hèila in the entry-level range, with the same concept of easy to drink:

  • Hèila Bianco, a blend of Grecanico (70%) and Catarratto (30%);
  • Hèila Rosso, a blend of Nero d’Avola (70%) and Syrah (30%).

This product line, designed as entry-level DOC Sicilia, is certified Organic and Vegan.

This is followed by the line of monovarietal wines DOC Sicilia and IGT Terre Siciliane, all produced purely from single grape varieties:

  • Catarratto Medea;
  • Grillo Edesia ;
  • Chardonnay  Bibesia ;
  • Nero D’Avola  Nesos ;
  • Syrah Admeto;
  • Cabernet Sauvignon Fere;
  • Zibibbo Moira;
  • Frappato Acasto;
  • Perricone Pelia.
  • Nero D’Avola Appassinesos.

Another line, consisting of more complex products, aged in barrique for about 12 months, is the “Cru line”:

  • Ninfea (a blend of Grillo 60% and Chardonnay 40%)
  • Narkè dei Poeti (a blend of Nero d’Avola 60% and Cabernet Sauvignon 40%).

The blend percentages always depend on the vintages.

Finally, we close with the line of sparkling wines with:
  • VSQ Metodo Classico Catarratto 100% Pas Dosè, which boasts a minimum 12-month lees aging followed by successive disgorging;
  • Metodo Charmat, the Katria Grillo Spumante Brut.

    We present the technical sheets for all the products from the Alcesti lines listed so far.
